How do I become an insurance broker?
You can begin your insurance broking career in a role that doesn’t require you to have any insurance knowledge. Such a role will allow you to use your administration / customer service experience and provide you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge of insurance and broking. Alternatively, you can use your general insurance, underwriting or claims experience to move into other roles of interest. These roles will provide you with the chance to develop your broking skills and begin your broking career.
The insurance broking industry requires professionals to meet appropriate legislative requirements to perform certain roles. The Financial Services Reform Act (2001) requires all employees involved in providing insurance advice, to be technically competent. Assistance and opportunities are provided by OAMPS Insurance Brokers to help employees achieve the mandatory level of compliance through insurance industry related courses. All employees providing insurance advice to clients must achieve Tier 1 or Tier 2 compliance modules in line with the Financial Services Reform requirements.
Employees joining us in roles directly related to providing insurance advice will be required to demonstrate their level of compliance achievement and will be expected to maintain a level of competence through ongoing professional development.
